Who Oldfag is

The Oldfag measures the industry against the classics — and the industry, in his opinion, loses the comparison. His list stands firmly on titles from the 2000s, the nineties and deeper: hand-drawn animation, cel shading, openings with cassette-deck sound. He opens modern seasons too — with roughly the feeling an archaeologist has looking at a replica.

The algorithm identifies him by the age profile of the list: the median release year is shifted into the past harder than any other class's, and fresh releases are vanishingly few. He is the Newfag's mirror twin — and, ironically, both watch «only their own era»; the eras just differ.

Easy to write off as nostalgia, but the Oldfag has an argument: his canon is proven by decades, not by a season of hype. Bebop and Fullmetal genuinely hold up today — try saying the same about the hits of five years ago. So when he grumbles «they made them better back then», the rewatch statistics are, broadly, on his side. Sometimes.
