Who Romantic is

The Romantic watches anime for the moment when the two finally hold hands — and for all twenty-four episodes of awkwardness before it. Romance, romcoms, shoujo and school dramas fill his list nearly whole: it's not «a genre among others», it's the prism through which he views the medium itself. Action without a love line is, to him, an unfinished story.

The class is genre-bound and therefore rare: the algorithm grants it only at a heavy concentration of romance in the list — a couple of casual romcoms a year won't do it; real loyalty to the genre is required. Within the genre, though, the Romantic's expertise is ruthless: he tells living chemistry from a cardboard pairing in one episode and never forgives extra drama for drama's sake.
