The Skeptic is a viewer who doubts by default. Not out of spite: he's simply seen enough overhyped «masterpieces of the season» to stop believing trailers, hype and other people's tens. Every title starts from a blank slate with him and has to prove its quality episode by episode.
In the scores this is restraint, not bile: a mean below the site average, but with no craters. He rarely gives ones — that takes passion, and the Skeptic is dispassionate. He uses the entire scale, from low marks to tens: the centre is simply shifted downward relative to the crowd, not squeezed into a narrow band. What separates him from the Acid Critic is the absence of a negative skew — he doesn't hunt for flaws, he just doesn't rush into rapture.
The Skeptic is worth reading after everyone has finished hyping a new release: his sober seven a month later usually lands closer to the truth than hundreds of burning nines in premiere week. A high score from him is a verified fact, not an emotion.
